Addiction Treatment In Newport Beach, California

October 28, 2008
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UCI SCHOOL OF MEDICINE SELECTS BROOKSIDE INSTITUTE

NEWPORT BEACH, CA. – Brookside Institute announced a new affiliation with University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine to provide educational training for UCI medical students. Beginning Fall 2008, UCI medical students will be participating in educational training at Brookside Institute under the supervision of Yi Jin, M.D., Director of Neuroscience at Brookside Institute and Trung Thai, M.D., F. A.C.G.S., Medical Director of Brookside Institute.

Brookside Institute and Brookside Institute’s NeuroScience Center offers UCI medical students a unique opportunity to participate in cutting-edge treatments for substance abuse and mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

One treatment, Magno-EEG Resonant Therapy (MERT), is an innovative procedure using a non-invasive electromagnetic resonant process to tune up or down specific brainwaves. This is an advanced process of repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) that is unique to Brookside Institute’s NeuroScience Center. Unlike rTMS, MERT is precisely calculated based on the individual’s electroencephalogram (EEG) to deliver the perfect combination of electromagnetic resonance to bring the brainwave back into balance. "We believe that the future in treating common mental health disorders and diseases lies in changing brain function – treating the underlying cause, not just the symptoms of the disease," stated Dr. Jin, Director of NeuroScience at Brookside Institute.

"Brookside Institute uses a comprehensive approach to treating substance abuse and other mental health disorders that includes medication, cognitive behavioral therapy and neurotherapies such as MERT, neurofeedback and referenced EEG," stated Dr. Thai, Medical Director of Brookside Institute. "Our protocol will provide valuable experience to UCI medical students, and the students will provide additional care and value for our patients."

"I am excited about our affiliation with UCI School of Medicine and the benefits for its students and our patients," stated E. Keith Owens, Director of Brookside Institute. "Brookside Institute has made extraordinary progress in the past year since opening our NeuroScience Center and our staff continues to excel in our commitment to advancing treatments for substance abuse and mental health disorders."
