Addiction Treatment In Newport Beach, California

RESEARCH CONTINUES TO VALIDATE
BROOKSIDE RECOVERY PROTOCOL™

IRVINE, CA. – This month, another team of scientists have provided evidence that the Brookside Recovery Protocol™, based on science and medicine, is the right approach to treating addiction.

The study conducted by the University of Illinois at Chicago isolated a protein, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), that has a direct link to anxiety and alcohol consumption. Lower levels of BDNF increased both anxiety and alcohol consumption in rats. When the BDNF levels were restored to normal, the rat’s anxiety and alcohol consumption diminished.

"We are very excited by the findings of this study,” remarked Thom Montgomery, Ph. D., Director of Research at Brookside Institute. “Other studies have shown that over 70% of men and women treated for addiction or substance abuse suffer from a co-occurring mental health condition. The study at the University of Illinois at Chicago proves that this is not just a coincidence."

"The Brookside Recovery Protocol includes the diagnosis and treatment of co-occurring disorders such as anxiety, depression, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and bipolar disorders as a critical component of the comprehensive treatment of addiction,” stated E. Keith Owens, Director of Brookside Institute. “Brookside Institute was founded on the belief that science and medicine can successfully treat alcohol and drug addiction."

Brookside Institute’s approach to treatment focuses on addiction as a brain-based disease that affects the person’s behavior, not a voluntary destructive behavior that must be changed. Their program is based on the belief that successful, long-term recovery requires more than just forcing the patient to change his behavior or “choosing” not to drink or use. Without treating the underlying mental health issues such as anxiety, the patient may face a lifetime of chronic relapse, according to the clinical team at Brookside Institute.

"We are committed to fighting addiction and we know that science and medicine will one day provide the cure,” said E. Keith Owens. “Until that time, we will continue to use the latest treatments and medication to treat the disease."
