Addiction Treatment In Newport Beach, California

Naltrexone to Reduce Cravings

Naltrexone was approved in 1995 for reduction of withdrawal cravings in addicts and alcoholics. It has been extremely successful in helping people addicted to opiates, alcohol, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana. It does so by satisfying those areas of the brain drained of appropriate chemicals by drug use, while allowing the brain to heal more quickly.

Before a patient can begin to focus on addressing the underlying causes of their addictions, they must first break the stranglehold of cravings that feed their addiction.

Unlike other programs that rely on only faith or personal willpower, Brookside Institute uses a powerful FDA-approved drug called Naltrexone to remove intense cravings. Real progress is much easier only after these cravings are gone.

The use of Naltrexone as a means to reduce addiction cravings was first studied by Dr. Joseph Volpicelli at the University of Pennsylvania in the 1980s. He is a recognized leader in the subject of using Naltrexone and has published numerous research documents to support its use. In recent years, Naltrexone has begun to gain wider recognition as an effective alternative in combating drug and alcohol addiction.

Naltrexone offers many benefits to patients:

  • It works fast. Within one hour of starting Naltrexone treatment, the cravings for alcohol and other drugs will be significantly reduced.
  • It is non-addictive and has minimal side effects.
  • It can be taken on an outpatient basis, minimizing disruptions to a patient’s life.
  • Naltrexone does not make people physically ill while drinking. It reduces the urge to drink and removes the “high” people get from drinking.
  • Naltrexone has no mind altering effects and does not cause individuals to be impaired in any way, making it a perfect choice for busy professionals who need to “keep the edge” while conducting business.

When combined with Brainwave Analysis (rEEG) and a focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy program, Naltrexone is the first step in helping people to more easily deal with treatment for drug and alcohol abuse.
